Colorado Drug Bust Results in Seven Arrests

Home / Law Enforcement / Colorado Drug Bust Results in Seven Arrests

A ten month long investigation came to a conclusion this week when federal agents arrested seven suspects in connection with a huge drug ring in the Denver suburb of Longmont, Colorado. The Drug Enforcement Administration worked closely with the Longmont Police Department beginning April 2012 to bring down a major operation involving methamphetamine, cocaine and heroin. During the course of the investigation, federal officials used an extensive wiretap network and spent $5,000 on drugs to cut off the main supply of meth and major suppliers of cocaine and heroin.

According to the arrest warrant affadavit the Longmont man running the ring was serving a sentence at a halfway house due to earlier drug related charges. An undercover agent had several meetings with the man over the course of months and spent several thousand dollars at a time to purchase the drugs, sometimes operating through an intermediary informant. Meetings and drug deals typically occurred throughout the Denver metro area including the dealer’s house, gas stations and fast food joints. Federal wire tap warrants allowed officials to document details of the drug deals and discover the sources of the product, often involving other Denver area individuals and in some cases originating from California.

The Denver U.S. Attorney’s Office is prosecuting the federal level case, and some local drug users who purchased substances from members of the ring will be prosecuted through Boulder District Court after being arrested in conjunction with the case. Drug arrests on or near the West Coast are becoming more commonplace as officials tighten up operations to battle the war on drugs. Federal agencies in both Mexico and the United States are emphasizing prevention to get at the root cause of the drug issues.
